Support the BTA

Our help is free to all, we produce considerable amounts of printed information and attend exhibitions and awareness events, we fund expensive research.  We receive no financial support from government or organisations, so where does the money come from?  From people like you. You can support our work in several ways; by becoming a member, by making a donation, by remembering us in your will, or just by joining your local self-help group and spreading the message of ‘Better Tinnitus Awareness’.

Join Us

The Association was founded over 25 years ago by people with tinnitus. Our services are free to all and we rely entirely on membership fees, donations and legacies for our funding. By becoming a member of the British Tinnitus Association you not only help others affected by tinnitus but you also give us the influence to press for better public recognition of tinnitus, more resources for treatment and research into better treatments and improved knowledge about the condition.

As a member you will receive discounted rates to attend the BTA's Counselling Training Courses, Annual Conference and Study Days. These are normally accredited by various organizations and provide professionals with valuable CPD points. Other meetings are also at reduced cost. Those who wish also receive our quarterly journal Quiet, which will keep you up-to-date with:

We appreciate that not all members want to receive Quiet and we therefore provide the option to decline it or to have it sent to someone else who may benefit from it.

Membership is £15 per year in the UK or £20 (sterling) overseas.

You can join online or, if you prefer you can contact us, by phone, post or email, for a joining form.

Donations

Whatever the size, donations help the British Tinnitus Association to continue to fund research into the condition and to carry on with innovative forward thinking projects. You can either make a donation online, phone us and pay with a credit or debit card on 0114 250 9933, or you can simply post a donation to us at: British Tinnitus Association, Unit 5, Acorn Business Park, Woodseats Close, Sheffield, S8 0TB. Please make cheques and postal orders payable to: British Tinnitus Association.

Make your donation go further

Charities can now claim back the tax paid on all donations, which means we can do more for your money. In each tax year you need to pay enough income tax and / or capital gains tax to cover the amount we shall be claiming back from the Inland Revenue (at present we may claim 25p for each £1 donated). Find out more about Gift Aid.

Legacies

Much of the research we support is funded from legacies we have received.  As a charity, any bequest you make to us is exempt from Inheritance Tax, so ALL of your gift benefits others (except for the the taxman, who might otherwise take 40%).  You don't have to make a new Will, a codicil (a sort of afterthought) can be added to your current one. If you are interested in helping our work in this way please contact us.  We won't pester you but it does help us if we know who our supporters are and we can also advise on the wording of the bequest so that it is used in the way you mean.

Sponsored Events

Other ways to help our work includes organising sponsored events, such as marathons, tea parties, coffee mornings etc. Contact our office if you want to help us in one of these ways.
